COMMUNICATIONS :Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia has halved its customer growth target to 10% due to the economic slowdown, high inflation and oil prices.
Phanop Kasemsarn, vice-president for strategic planning, said the CDMA mobile operator had earlier set target growth this year at 20% from its current base of around 1.2 million, including 450,000 postpaid, a high proportion for the local market.
He said Hutch had first-half sales growth of 9% from the previous year.
Hutch is negotiating with CAT Telecom to be the sole marketing arm for the latter's CDMA service in 51 provinces outside the 25 central ones now served by Hutch.

Sugar sales made
COMMODITIES :Thailand, the world's second-largest sugar exporter, sold 96,066 tonnes yesterday at a tender, the first in five months.
Singapore-based Olam International Ltd and Itochu Corp. Japan's fourth-largest trading company, were the biggest buyers, said Surat Thadachawasakul, acting general manager of the Thai Cane and Sugar Corp.BLOOMBERG

Betagro expanding
AGRIBUSINESS :Betagro Science Centre, a subsidiary of the agribusiness giant Betagro Group, has received investment privileges for a 112-million-baht food testing service.
Satit Chanjavanakul, the Board of Investment (BoI) secretary-general, said food exporters had to pay utmost attention to contaminated substances, and the Betagro project would set a good example.
Betagro Science Centre provides livestock health examination services, chemical testing for arsenic, tin and cadmium contamination, mineral testing for phosphorus or other harmful substances such as pesticides.

AUTOMOBILES :Chevrolet Sales Thailand is taking its mobile showroom on the road again. The eight-million-baht showroom customised trailer first introduced in 2006 to serve motorists who may not have access to the 103 dealerships nationwide.
