AP Honda Co will invest 900 million baht to build the largest Honda safe riding centre in the Asia-Oceania region to support its road safety programme.
The new facility will support road safety training for motorcycle and automobile drivers. The company will also build 30 more safe riding centres in various provincial locations.
Honda, which has about a 70% share of the local motorcycle market, has trained 10.9 million people in safe-driving techniques over the past 20 years.
Located on a 20.5-rai site on Ramkhamhaeng (Sukhapiban 3) Road in Bangkok, the new national centre would house a 20,000-square-metre practice field that supports both motorcycles and automobiles and an office building that includes four training rooms that can be combined to accommodate up to 300 participants. Construction would be completed by January 2009.
By 2010, Honda will build 30 new upcountry riding centres to provide safe riding education that could cut road accidents. It now has centres in Chiang Rai, Ratchaburi, Kamphaeng Phet, Ubon Ratchathani, Buri Ram and Surat Thani while two more will open soon in Phitsanulok and Rayong.
Honda initiated the Safety Thailand programme by building the country's first Honda Safe Riding Center in Samrong Tai, Samut Prakan.
