President

Raising the industry standard

Thai Carbon Black Public Company Limited (TCB) is one of Thailand’s leading manufacturing companies and one of the largest producers of carbon black in the world. Over the years, TCB has upgraded the standards of the carbon black industry, via hallmark achievements in quality and performance.

TCB, a member of the Aditya Birla Group of India, produces up to 160,000 tonnes of world-class furnace grade carbon black in its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Angthong.
It associates itself with such prominent names in global tyre manufacturing as Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear, Yokohama, Continental and Dunlop, and has achieved a strong business presence through its superb business infrastructure and strict adherence
to total quality awareness.

A source of national pride
TCB has brought many accomplishments to Thailand. It was the fifth company outside Japan to have won the coveted Deming Prize, and among the few companies in Thailand to have earned a TPM Excellence Award. TCB’s latest prestigious awards include the Best Employer in Thailand and the Fifth Best Employer in Asia – 2003, the Prime Minister’s Thailand Quality Class Award, ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS16949, OHSAS18001 and ISO/IEC17025.

Vital components
TCB’s product, carbon black, is an important industrial raw material, used for various applications. It can be found in various everyday items, and is an essential element in the production of paint, printing ink and a wide range of rubber products. In addition, it acts as a reinforcing agent in the production of tyres.
Vendors as partners
TCB works together with its suppliers and vendors to improve their process capability. Suppliers and vendors are considered a part of the TCB family and are recognised as important contributors towards the company’s growth and success. To facilitate this trend, TCB has started an innovative new vendor development programme that comprises, among other elements: regular exchange visits to vendors’ plants; full technical discussions; information sharing; a ‘best vendor award’;
and vendor training courses.

People: TCB’s key to success
Having grown steadily since its establishment, TCB enjoys excellent leadership. Recognising its human resources as the key to its success, TCB hires people with good academic qualifications with preference shown to those who can demonstrate commitment to achieving the organisation’s goals. The company creates a caring environment for employees and offers a culture of continuous learning and adaptation to enable staff skill development and success. Education and training are an important part of the TCB work environment, and staff are given authority, autonomy and space, as well as the freedom to make decisions.

Looking ahead
After its string of achievements over the years, TCB now faces even bigger challenges ahead. Customer satisfaction remains a top priority, as do the same high-quality standards that have earned for the company widespread respect. Additionally, TCB plans to focus on customised products and packaging, and to form technological alliances to allow for better products and an expanded business network.
