Student life

Prae Wanaluk (left) and Alissara Kornnai are both first-year engineering students. Prae, a native of Suphan Buri, entered Suranaree through the national university entrance examination and Chaiyaphum-born Alissara was accepted through the university’s quota system for provincial students.

As first year students, most of their classes take place in large lecture halls seating 300 or 1500 students.

Engineering is a demanding discipline and this term both Prae and Alissara have heavy loads. Physics, calculus, technical drawing and English are among the subjects they are studying this term. Both have been surprised at the rapid pace of study under the trimester system with only short 10-day breaks to recuperate between terms.

Both students say they are enjoying calculus and take pride in being able to solve difficult problems. It can be frustrating, however, when the solution escapes them. In such cases, they say, they generally consult with upperclassmen or find additional books to help them.
