Songkhla

Songkhla is one of fourteen provinces in southern Thailand and it is one of the oldest settlements on the southern peninsula. As early as the third and fifth centuries B.C., this area was an important part of an ancient maritime trade route to India, Cambodia and further north. Some of its historical sites have recently been restored and are open to visitors. At present Songkhla, with its trade hub in Haad Yai city, serves as a center for the fishing industry and the educational system of the South. Besides its many well-known secondary schools, Songkhla also boasts some of the countries most prestigious universities: Thaksin University, Prince of Songkhla University and the Rajabhat Institute, for example.

The Mermaid with Cat and Rat islands in the distance are long-time symbols of the province of Songkhla.

Thaksin University offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes in education, sciences, arts, economics and business. Post Publishing's seminar in Songkhla on June 20-21, 1997 was organised by the Humanities Faculty of this prestigious school.
