    Spoiled for Choice

11/03/2010 : Hello readers. This week's photo is by Piyapan Dissaneewet, who took a great shot of a set of offerings during the Chinese New Year celebrations last month. It is an ancient tradition for Chinese descendants to worship deities and their late ancestors during this occasion. The offerings comprise various kinds of meat, cooked rice, fruits and desserts.

    Peace at Dusk

04/03/2010 : Hello readers. I took this photo during a visit to the Sukhothai Historical Park one evening. Like many other visitors, I could not resist the sight of the graceful walking Buddha next to a plain stupa, a signature of Sukhothai religious art. In capturing this photo, I set the white balance, or colour temperature at 9,000 degrees Kelvin instead of the standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and the result was more than rewarding. The new colour helps bring out the sense of calmness and serenity.

  • Interpreting dreams Through tangible forms

04/03/2010 : Divining an artist's outpouring of fantastic images from his or her childlike imagination is comparable to interpreting dreams through enigmatic physical forms. The tangible dreams of four such creators can now be decrypted at Ardel's network of galleries, affording audiences an opportunity to see themselves through the transforming eyes of the artist.

  • Surrealism of a Princess

28/02/2010 : For art enthusiasts, a special exhibition, "Marsi" by HSH Princess Marsi Paribatra, is a chance to get closer to the senior princess who spends most of her time away from home. Altogether 38 paintings by the princess will be put on display at the event, which will open today in the Hall of Mirrors, M floor, at Siam Paragon. The opening will be graced by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Princess Marsi, who is in poor health and now receives medical treatment in France, will not be present at the exhibition. The works, all in a surrealist/fantasy/symbolist style, were selected from more than 100 paintings the princess created over more than 40 years. MR Jisnuson Svasti, a close cousin and chairman of the Princess Marsi Paribatra foundation, said even though the princess has held several exhibitions in France, the country where she settled down in the 1960s, she has had few exhibitions in Thailand.
